We currently have the following opportunities to join our team:

Full time Veterinary Technician

Torch Farm and Equine Ltd is looking for an enthusiastic team player with good communication skills who will have the drive to maintain and develop the already high standards of service and care delivered by our existing Torch team.

This is a full time position working 5 days per week – 2 days in South Molton and 3 days in Bideford.

The successful candidate will assist in providing specialist high quality sheep breeding services to pedigree flocks. In addition you will work with the cattle tech team to provide technical support for clients and farm vets with services such as calf health monitoring, locomotion scoring, parlour and udder health monitoring. The role also involves maintaining a clean and functional clinical environment at all Torch Farm and Equine locations and providing on farm support to large animal/equine vets as required.

The main tasks include equipment preparation and maintenance, semen handling and preparation, lab and microscopy work, worm egg counts, blood profiles. Also keeping clinical areas clean and disinfected, assisting with surgical procedures, cleaning kits and equipment in house and on farm.

The position includes a significant amount of administration work too – managing the admin for sheep AI and ET programmes, maintaining records, production of health reports using appropriate in house software, reception work, managing diaries and client records.

Skills and qualifications required are:-

  • Minimum grade C GCSE in at least 3 subjects including maths and English
  • good IT skills (experience in the use of Excel, Word and Powerpoint)
  • an animal management or agricultural qualification (NVQ level 3 minimum)
  • R-SQP, AMTRA training or equivalent – desirable
