Paul graduated from the University of Bristol in 2004 and joined Mullacott Equine Hospital, becoming a director of Torch Equine Vets in 2011. Paul’s primary clinical interests lie in equine reproduction, advanced dentistry and sports horse management and lameness.
He leads the BEVA accredited AI team, is a member of the Association Racecourse Veterinary Surgeons and an Official Veterinarian licensed for the export of equines. In recent years he has undertaken training in equine acupuncture and equine endodontics/restorative dentistry. Finishing his Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice remains on his list of jobs to complete!
Paul is married to Harriet who works for our sister small animal practice Charter Vets and they have two young children.
His passion remains eventing up to intermediate level and he keeps fit in the winter by playing football.

Jennifer comes from an equine veterinary background and developed her interest in equine medicine whilst studying at Liverpool. Whilst in her final year Jennifer completed an externship in equine medicine at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital UC Davis California. She graduated in 2010 with distinction and joined the team at Mullacott Equine Hospital. Jennifer is the principle vet in charge of hospital inpatient care.
In 2018 Jennifer completed her CertAVP(Equine Practice) and in September 2020, became an Associate Director of the practice.
Dr Caroline Blake

Caroline grew up in Devon and graduated from Bristol University in 1994. She worked for two years in a mixed practice in North Cornwall before completing a residency in equine medicine and surgery at the University of Liverpool, and gained a certificate in equine soft tissue surgery in 1999.
After a brief spell in a Cheshire equine hospital, Caroline moved back to Devon and started working for Torch Vets (formerly Charter) in 2003.
Caroline has an interest in all aspects of equine work both ambulatory and in the hospital.
We welcomed Becky to the practice in 2019. She comes to us after completing an Equine Internship in Kent. She graduated from the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest in 2018. During her studies she carried out many externships in equine hospitals and facilities in the UK, Australia, Ireland and Argentina.
Before Vet school Becky completed a BSc (Hons) in Equine Science and then worked for several years in a large equine reproduction centre in Gloucestershire spending her winters at a reproduction centre in Argentina. Becky enjoys all aspects of equine work with a particular interest in internal medicine and all things reproduction!
Becky loves travelling and exploring the great outdoors be it walking, hiking, riding swimming or spectating at point To points. Recently moving to the area, she is really looking forward to exploring Devon.
Justine joined the team in January 2021 after working for three and a half years as an equine vet on the Devon/Cornwall border. Having grown up locally, she has a good knowledge of the area. She graduated from the University of Liverpool with distinction and completed an elective in equine orthopaedics at the Philip Leverhulme Equine Hospital. Justine is currently working towards a certificate to become an Advanced Practitioner in Equine Practice. She enjoys all aspects of equine work with a particular interest in internal medicine and reproduction.
When not at work she can usually be found riding or exploring the moors.
Dr Nathalie Van Heesewijk

Nathalie was awarded the Rossdales Equine Studies Prize when she graduated from Bristol University in 2012. She then worked alongside prominent equine vets in California and Brazil before completing a 12 month internship in one of the UK’s leading Equine hospitals.
Nathalie joined our team early 2016, after 2 years working as an equine vet on the Cornwall/ Devon border. She has since trained in equine acupuncture with the Association of British Veterinary Acupuncturists and completed a certificate in advanced veterinary practice, specialising in equine internal medicine and performance issues. Nathalie has also undergone further training in equine anaesthesia and prides herself in ensuring safe and pain-free operations for all our patients undergoing surgery.
Nathalie has a keen interest in donkey medicine. She works closely with the Donkey Sanctuary and has spent a few months working with working donkeys and mules in Morocco.
Hailing originally from Northern Ireland, Brian joined Torch Equine Vets after graduating from the Royal Veterinary College. Brian’s interest in equine medicine developed throughout university and he enjoys all aspects of equine veterinary work.
He is also a keen racegoer and regularly attends meetings.
