Radiography and ultrasound are the most commonly used imaging techniques in horses and our vets have access to a full range of portable digital equipment.  All images obtained from these techniques are stored digitally and are available immediately to our clinicians.

Radiography

Radiography forms an essential part of many of our lameness investigations and is often the first imaging technique used to evaluate lameness by visualising bones and joints. Portable machines are frequently used to assess the lower limbs, including fracture injuries.

Digital radiography provides high quality images which can be magnified and enhanced allowing the most subtle changes to be appreciated. If required, images can be e-mailed to specialists for further opinion.

Our mobile unit enables radiographs to be conveniently taken on yard if horses are unable to travel.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound examinations can be a vital tool in the diagnosis of a wide range of equine diseases and conditions. Examples of the many uses of ultrasound include:

  • Reproductive scanning to aid optimal time for insemination, pregnancy diagnosis and treatment of twinning.

  • High specification ultrasound for scanning tendons and ligaments which are commonly injured in performance horses.

  • Scanning of internal organs such as the heart, liver, kidney, intestines and lungs to provide valuable diagnostic information.

  • Precise and safe guided biopsy of the liver, kidneys and other internal structures.

  • Ultrasound to assist with guiding medication of facet joints of the neck.

It is our aim to work as part of your team of advisors to ensure good quality healthcare that is value for money.
